Laniakea (Lan-ee-a-KAY-a) - "Immeasurable Heaven" in Hawaiian - Our Home Supercluster

(best viewed in fullscreen)

Laniakea (Lan-ee-a-KAY-a) - "Immeasurable Heaven" in Hawaiian, is the Supercluster of Galaxies (including the Milky Way). Scientists have constructed the largest ever 3D map of the universe, showing more than a million galaxies up to 6 billion light years away.

The map helps to reveal the scale of our vast universe, (which is thought to contain more than one hundred billion galaxies).
