Geographical Oddities


Reno, NV is further west than Los Angeles

Edinburgh, Scotland is further west than Liverpool, England


The closest US State to Africa is Maine


If you travel due south from Detroit, MI, the first country you’ll enter will be Canada


New York City is 40° North, 74° West. The same position at 40° South would be in the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast of Chile


Seattle is farther North than Minneapolis, Green Bay, Toronto, and St. John’s (Newfoundland)


In fact, here are some locations that are closer to St. John's than Vancouver, BC:

     * Warsaw, Poland
     * Panama City, Panama
     * The entire country of Suriname
     * Dakar, Senegal

The Panama Canal is east of Miami


If you travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic through the Panama Canal, you’re going east to west
