MONDAY MIND GAME

While on safari in deepest, darkest Africa, Bwana Bob was captured by a tribe of hostile natives. Through a translator, the Chief told Bwana Bob that he had trespassed on sacred tribal land and would be put to death, but that the manner of his death would be determined by a statement he would have to make. If the statement were true, he would be buried alive, and if the statement were false, he would be fed to the lions.

Bwana Bob thought for a few moments, then made his statement.

The Chief smiled and let him go.

What did Bwana Bob say?

The statement was, “I will be fed to the lions.”

If the Chief threw him at lions, Bwana Bob’s statement would be true and he would have to be buried alive. However, if they buried him alive, the statement would be false. Thus, the Chief had no choice left but to release him
