The WW II Veteran

The WW II Veteran
I heard his electric pushcart pull up behind me at the checkout. He gave me a big hello before he even made contact with me. I turned and I gave him an equally big hello.

He had on a veterans hat from World War II . I extended my hand and I offered him I a big thank you for his service and that I was deeply honored to meet him.

He looked at me with sad eyes and dropped his head and slowly shook it back-and-forth. He looked up at me with a tear in his eye and said without missing a beat, “Well, I guess we didn’t finish the job”. And I asked “Why do you say that sir? I think you did a fantastic job”.

He said (and I quote) “Not with that racist Nazi in the White House right now. Your generation needs to pick up the swords; your generation needs to march on Washington; my generation can’t do it anymore, so please be on the right side of history “

I thanked him again for his service and I told him that I was one of many that we’re going to take this man down, he gave me a big hoo-rah.
