I had the privilege of meeting President Carter in 1995 during the Carter Work Project (sponsored by Habitat for Humanity) in Watts. He was friendly, approachable and amazingly gracious.
I think he was a whole lot better President than most people give him credit for. But since leaving office, he has continued his work in public service, whether it's building houses in South Central Los Angeles, on diplomatic missions all over the world, or breaking with his own denomination over its opposition to women as pastors.
