At the risk of pissing off all the Trekkers, Whovians, and Frakkers... MY favorite sci-fi series was Firefly. It only ran during the 2002-2003 season, with only14 episodes (which, incidentally, were shown out of sequence by Fox). It spawned a full-length motion picture called Serenity in 2005, and since then, fans have grown exponentially.
Nathan Fillion played the Captain, and he later starred in the cop comedy/drama Castle from 2009-2016. During the run of that show, there were a number of not-so-subtle allusions to the previous show.
