LONG before Leslie Neilson made his bones as a comedic actor with Airplane!, and just three years after his role as Commander John J. Adams (sort of a proto-James T. Kirk) in Forbidden Planet, Leslie Nielsen starred as American Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion in an 8-episode series The Swamp Fox (running as part of Walt Disney Presents), based on the 1959 biography of Marion by Robert Duncan Bass.
Marion used irregular methods of warfare and is considered one of the fathers of modern guerrilla warfare and maneuver warfare, and is credited in the lineage of the United States Army Rangers. He was also the basis and inspiration for Mel Gibson's character Benjamin Martin in The Patriot.
Being part of the Disney lineup (a la Davy Crockett), the show had a theme song!

Swamp Fox
(chorus)
Swamp Fox! Swamp Fox!
Tail on his hat,
Nobody knows where The Swamp Fox's at.
Swamp Fox! Swamp Fox!
Hiding in the glen,
He runs away to fight again.
Got no cornpone, got no honey
All we got is Continental Money
Won't buy bacon, hominy or grits
Rodent ears and possum is all we get!
(chorus)
Oh we're ridin' with the Swamp Fox
There's a price upon his head,
Yes we're ridin' with the Swamp Fox
'Til the enemy is dead
(chorus)
We are short of lead and powder
Always fight with an empty gun.
Only makes us shout the louder
We are men of Marion.
(chorus)
Got no blankets, got no beds
got no roof above our heads
Got no shelter when it rains
All we got is Yankee Brains.
got no roof above our heads
Got no shelter when it rains
All we got is Yankee Brains.
(chorus)
